Transitioning from Winter to Spring has been a breeze with Ian's new custom hoodie & cardigan from The Wishing Elephant. They came in simple paper bag packaging with a note and candy.

Influence
INFLUENCE
A prominent word that served in the conception of this blog.
It's "the capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something, or the effect itself." More specifically, "a person or thing with the capacity or power to have an effect on someone or something."

1-2 Steppin' Out of My Comfort Zone
Growing up, the plan of life was to have a profession (work for someone = stability), get married and have kids. That's when you win at life. Simple enough right? My parents did it. My friends' parents did it. It's basically, tradition. But ever since I was young, I knew I wasn't supposed to follow the usual path. Yes, I thought I'd do the work > married > kids life, but I was different from my friends, cousins...and yup...seeing where I'm at now, proves that.
Everyone "did it right."
Of course there are times when I'm envious. I look at things and think...how did I get here? Will I catch up? or am I playing a totally different game of life?
That gut feeling I've had about my path was right. It was only until I had Ian and fell into the rhythm of being a mother did I realize what I wanted my plan to be.
(I'll tease you with that, let's see if the end story matches)

Yoga with Ian
I haven't really been one for yoga or meditation, though I probably need the practice since overthinking is my MO. I've always been into sports and HIIT, so yoga was too slow for me. I'd much rather find peace (satisfaction) by smacking a tennis ball cross court for a couple hours. The only time I thoroughly enjoyed doing yoga was during a Mom's Night Out Event but who wouldn't love yoga poolside during a summer night under the stars?
So since my love for tennis is at the mercy of weather and conflicting schedules, I haven't been on the courts in a while. I've had to stick to late night gym sessions and solo Disneyland trips with Ian for "workouts". It took my lil' one to get me open to yoga again. During one of my nights in working out with Ian while watching Grey's, Ian says, "ok mama, my turn to teach." I laughed and said ok, thinking he'd just do moves he's seen me do before...but NOPE! I unknowingly attended Ian's 1st yoga class!
It was seriously the cutest thing ever..like laugh and crying at the same time. Apparently, they do yoga at his school. So there I am, missing Grey's to do the "Butterfly," "Mountain," "Tree," "Snake," "Cat," and "Frog." Again, I don't know yoga poses but he seemed legit.
Ian's 1st class was sometime last Fall. I've been wanting to post but the weather and the holidays got in the way. After some heavy rain (finally), the sun came out and I took full advantage to take us outdoors, stretch and do another class. I took video too but can't seem to get a good version on here... you may just have to come over and attend for yourself :p
Happy February!

New Halloween Tradition
On the way home one day in SEPTEMBER, Ian said "Halloween door!" That's when I saw that a house in our neighborhood decked their front door/patio with Halloween decorations. As you know, I'm all about Halloween, but time already flies by so quickly, I was sad to see decorations up so early.
So this year, we added another Halloween tradition..door/lawn decorating. Ian didn't want anything scary so he chose to decorate our door like a pumpkin. This kit is super easy. I added an orange tablecloth to make it more festive.

Pumpkin Painting
Continuing with our Halloween traditions, here's this year's pumpkin painting. Ian chose Mickey, who he called "Count Mickula." Since our Chase pumpkin rot well before it could make it to Halloween, this one served as a fitting replacement.
