This is the day that the Lord has made.
Let us rejoice and be glad.
This year I took Ian to the park to "egg hunt." Really, it's several sections blocked off by ages with eggs for a free for all. We got there early, set up our blanket and hit the playground before all the festivities.

Ian was so excited but when it was time to hunt, he got timid. He ran to the eggs but kids around him would snatch them before he could. If you don't know, Ian is a big softy. Super loving, kind and considerate. He didn't want to fight for the eggs. I'm sure if he got one and a kid wanted it, he would of handed it to them..esp if it was a girl.
After a couple minutes, the hunt was over and I headed over to him. His pail was empty and his face was long. I'll admit, it was the first time I was disappointed in him. That was one of the worst feelings. I felt so bad. I think I felt the way I did because I felt like his tendency to be nice and not competitive could later translate in him getting taken advantage of. Yes, it was a bit deep there, maybe reaching too much into the psychology of it. I think part of it is seeing bits and pieces of me in him. These are the crucial years of his development and I can only do my best to help him foster his kindness to be a strength of his.
Walking to our spot under a tree, Ian was sad but not complaining, whining or feeling that things were unfair. I think that already shows his great character. We got to our spot, took a few pictures and Ian made the best of things by having fun rolling his pail down the hill. haha. Such a sweet and good boy.
The host made an announcement that they were giving eggs and candy to kids who weren't able to get any during the hunt. Ian lit up with excitement and we lined up. He got two eggs filled with one piece of candy each and a Kit Kat bar. With the little that he had, he still offered to share. *tear*
Before leaving, we went back to the playground and Ian made a friend to play "pirates" with.
Easter Sunday, I set up his own egg hut at our house to make up for the day before. I had him start at our front yard and led him to our backyard. He was so happy he found all the eggs...and that there was candy AND money in them. He put the quarters in his piggy bank but later said he wanted them to come out. Too late honey..haha
We went to mass and one of his grandmas gave him $5. He knew exactly what he wanted to buy. Since Target was closed, he had to wait a day to buy the next Star Wars Hot Wheel to add to his collection.
This Lenten season was a special one for me.
1) Shared it with someone my age who values and appreciates
the meaning and experience of the season.
2) Though experiencing rejection, loss, adversity,
I still remained faithful and true to myself.
3) I was able to re-focus.
What I "gave up" for Lent wasn't close to what I had to sacrifice.
My sacrifice, in turn became a surprise and blessing on Easter.
Easter mass was a true celebration.
