Vino & Vinyasa

This past weekend I attended my first ever Mom's Night Out.  No, it wasn't a night out on the town, wearing tight dresses and heels getting "turnt up".  Instead, it was just what moms really need...a Saturday night without our kids to cater to our mind, body, soul...and talk about our kids with other moms haha.

The night was dubbed, "Vino & Vinyasa." $20 for a 60 minute yoga class under the stars guided by Yoga with Riza, wine & appetizers and raffles & giveaways.

At first I was hesitant because I wasn't much of a yoga fan. The only yoga I had done was P90x and I got bored after 30 minutes.  I guess I just prefer fast paced workouts like playing a sport and doing cardio.  But since the event was being hosted by a friend, I wanted to give it a try, support her and take advantage of an opportunity to meet other moms.

I'm glad I got out of my comfort zone and attended because I had a great time.  The yoga session was so relaxing and reflective.  It was a perfect night under the stars, poolside with candlelight.  I had no trouble following along because Riza and her cousin Mary did a great job of guiding us (we were a mixed group of none to mid-level yoga experience, which included 2 pregnant women.) I highly recommend taking one of Riza's classes.

After yoga, we popped some Stella Rosa's and got our girl talk on over healthy appetizers  (+ brownies.) Since most of my mommy friends live far from me, I don't do many mommy hang outs...so that night was the first time I didn't feel different.  I didn't feel like I was "modeling motherhood."  And like this blog, I didn't have to share so much because we were all going though it or been through it.

I got so inspired by this group of women because not only were they moms, but most were small business owners as well. They were not tired, worn out moms "complaining" about how hard motherhood is.  Instead, they were driven, proud and excited.  It brought me back to the days when I had a baby business and got me thinking if I should start something up again.

Meeting these women and hearing their successes opened my eyes wider to possibilities.  Some people think that once you're a parent, the responsibility of caring for a child outweighs your dreams but it doesn't have to be that way.  For example, one of the ladies is a mother of 3, got her Doctorate degree and owns a mobile boutique called The Perfect Pair. ..aannd she's one of the fittest moms I've met.  It's definitely not for everyone to take on so much, but if you want it, you can..remember children are a blessing not a hindrance.

With that, I just want to thank Riza for hosting such a great event and to the ladies for adding to the experience.  I look forward to more Mom's Nites Out, keeping in touch and supporting women-run small businesses :)
