DIY Halloween Cookies

It's our favorite time of the year again! You know we had to come back to the blog to share this year's Halloween traditions.  We're starting off with some spooky treats.

Last year we cooked up some dirty worm cupcakes.  This year, we're baking funky cookie monsters! I got this easy to make kit from our beloved Target. It's called the "Jeepers Creepers Premium Cookie Mix" from Duff Goldman at Charm City Cakes. It comes with googly eyes and food coloring.

The "only ingredients to add" were 2 egg whites and butter.
I substituted the butter for coconut oil
and added almond extract and semi-sweet chocolate chips.

Ian helped me mix everything in one bowl
then I separated it in 3 bowls to add the food coloring.

At first I was afraid there wasn't enough food coloring.
But it was perfect
and I was actually surprised that the colors came out really bold.

Ian helped with adding the chocolate chips
and scooping.

I added the eyes right after cooking
while they were still soft and hot.

Ian's favorite ones were the green monsters.
I made him a special "Mike Wazowski" one
which he got super excited for.

I got my "Laker" purple monsters.

We decided to share the orange and extras
with the grandpas and grandmas he sees every week.

This ready to make kit was really good.
I'm glad I substituted the butter for coconut oil because it didn't feel too heavy, sweet or fatty.
I ate one the next day and it was still soft and moist.
You could even smell the coconut!

Any spooktacular recipes you'd like to share?
